Story

Hi there!

I'm combining my love of running with my passion for BAWSI's mission by dedicating my half marathon to fundraising for their organization. If you have the means and are interested in supporting the cause, please support my efforts by making a donation and even posting a message of support if you feel so inclined!

------

Here's more about BAWSI in their own words:

Bay Area Women’s Sports Initiative mobilizes the women’s sports community to engage, inspire, and empower girls in under-resourced neighborhoods and children with disabilities.

BAWSI provides powerful interventions for the most vulnerable children in our communities in the form of ACCESS©. Our programs focus on proven factors that help increase resiliency in children living with adversity.

Donations made through this platform are secure and will be remitted directly through to my charity of choice. Thanks so much for your support!!

Bay Area Women's Sports Initiative Inc

Founded in 2005 by sports executive Marlene Bjornsrud and soccer stars Julie Foudy and Brandi Chastain, BAWSI's mission is to mobilize the women's sports community to engage, inspire and empower girls in under-resourced neighborhoods and children with disabilities. Our free programs level the playing field so that ALL kids have access to play. We have enrolled over 24,000 children in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties; and, engaged over 9,000 volunteers.

Here is a link to BAWSI’s long-term impact study showing that compared with peers, BAWSI’s earliest participants have higher high school graduation rates, higher participation in high school sports, high daily exercise as young adults and strong leadership qualities. Girls who play, become women who lead!
