Hi there - 

I can't imagine being forced to flee my home, to live in constant fear and uncertainty. But that's the reality for millions of people around the world. As a 3rd generation Syrian American, the plight of Syrian refugees is particularly close to my heart, especially after they were devasted by earthquakes. 

My name is Malik Osman, a 16-year-old Junior at Serra High School. I've been deeply impacted by the stories of Syrian refugees, and I know I can make a difference.

That's why I'm running the San Francisco Marathon, my first marathon, and I am raising funds for the Karam Foundation. They're on the ground, providing education, mentorship, women's empowerment, and child protection.

Running this marathon is a physical challenge, but it's nothing compared to what Syrian refugees face on a daily basis. By raising funds, I'm standing (actually running!) in solidarity with them. I'm saying, "You're not alone, and I'm going to take every stride I can to help." This summer, I'm also spending time on the ground at the Turkey-Syria border volunteering at the Karam House and establishing a youth soccer camp.
